Dr. Ross is primarily involved in patent preparation and prosecution in the chemical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical arts, interferences, and reexaminations.

Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Ross held a variety of research and management positions within the chemical industry, nearly 10 years of which were as a practicing bench chemist, resulting in 24 issued United States patents to date. His research experience includes natural product synthesis; synthesis of photographic couplers and dyes; polymer chemistry, including condensation polymer synthesis, water soluble polymers and biodegradable polymers; environmentally responsible synthesis ("green chemistry"); water treatment, including corrosion inhibition, mineral scale inhibition, and dispersion additives; agricultural chemistry, including plant nutrition, and pesticide formulation; and detergent and cleaner formulations.

During Dr. Ross‛s pre-law industrial experience with a privately held entrepreneurial chemical company, was Director of Corporate Research of polymer chemicals and water treatments; Director of Regulatory Affairs for agricultural product registrations with state and federal authorities, TSCA, RCRA, and other EPA administered programs, and international regulations in the oil production chemical field; and Director of Intellectual Property managing the company‛s intellectual property portfolio of over 40 U.S. patents and over 150 foreign patent applications, including preparation of invention disclosures, responses to attorney inquiries and counseling of inventors relating to patent prosecution and opposition proceedings.

Dr. Ross has a B.S. degree summa cum laude in chemistry from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, and a J.D. degree summa cum laude from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he was a John Marshall Distinguished Scholar. Dr. Ross is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Chemical Society.
