Arne Olson is experienced in litigation and licensing matters pertaining to intellectual property, including the patent, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition areas. He has been responsible for patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret litigation in the United States and trademark litigation in several foreign countries. Arne has handled trials and preliminary injunction hearings on a wide range of matters. He has also handled numerous oppositions and appeals in the Patent and Trademark Office and other jurisdictions around the world both in defense of clients' trademarks and to prevent the registration of similar trademarks by others. His litigation experience includes internet domain name protection and cybersquatter prosecution. Arne does extensive work with trademark matters in foreign countries, including prosecution of applications and counseling clients on international protection of trademarks, and represents foreign companies for their trademark matters here in the United States.

Arne has handled litigation on a wide range of technologies including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, paper products, surgical devices, cosmetics, window blinds, lighting products, electric power supplies, bus parts, bar code scanners, computer software, lasers and optics. He has been involved in the legal protection of computer software and, in particular, licensing and copyright and trade secret matters relating to software. Arne has authored chapters on licensing in the Technology transfer Manual published by the Association of University Technology Managers.

Arne counsels clients on a variety of FDA regulatory and compliance matters, including strategy development, advertising, and product promotion issues.

Arne has a degree in physics from the University of Chicago and a J.D. degree with honors from the DePaul University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Illinois, before the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, is a member of the Trial Bar of the U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Arne has been appointed to the Physical Sciences Division Council at the University of Chicago.

His professional memberships include the International Trademark Association, American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, and IEEE. He was designated a Super Lawyer in Intellectual Property and Litigation, a peer review designation, in surveys of Illinois lawyers for all the years 2005-2023 conducted by Law & Politics magazine, and was selected as a Leading Lawyer in intellectual property law for all the years 2005-2023 by the Illinois Leading Lawyers Network, Law Bulletin Publishing Company.
